The slideshow text boxes do not operate the same way as in the demo:
1) They are not colored
2) They have "Read more..." links
3) They change the slide when hovered over instead of changing when clicked on.
The slideshow transitions pop up and down when using "Style 1" in the theme settings.. all other styles transition correctly.
I've followed the "7.x sardinia from scratch" directions exactly with the following exceptions:
I turned off the "Site Name" in the appearance settings because it was throwing the whole layout off.
I had to rename the "jquery.cycle.all.js" to "jquery.cycle.all.min.js" to get the slideshow to work.
I have created a new content type called "News"
I have modified the Slideshow View to only show Content: Type "Article"

Which version of Views Slideshow are you using? There's a problem with pager in the alpha1 version at present, try replacing it with the development version and clearing the cache and seeing if it solves any of the problems.

I am having a similar issue, my slideshow is showing "Basic Page" content type but I would like for it to show articles or news. Can you help me out by explaining, how did you modified the slideshow to only show content type "Article"?
Also what fields did you add to your "News" content type?

I don't believe I set up a News content type...hmm! As far as step by step content type filtering for the view:
1) Navigate to Structure > Views
2) Click to edit the slideshow view
3) Now look to the "Filter criteria" panel
4) Click 'add' to add a new filter
5) Find the filter for "Content: Type ", check it and click the Apply button
6) Set it to "Is one of" "Article"
7) Click Apply (All Displays)
8) Save the view
Then it should only show articles in the slideshow. :)
